Brush Embroidery - Regular Entry

How easy this one also looked when watching the tutorials. However, very humbling to try it out and get an appreciation for what looks simple to do. This exercise was also an exercise in looking…not every brush stroke is the same!

My first try was some simple burgundy designs on a heart soap. The colors were disappointing as I’m still using extra virgin olive oil and a really bad kind of purple clay that doesn’t ever look purple. I also got soda ash that didn’t help the design at all. Here also, I learned that the level of trace of the soap used for the embroidery needs to be thicker to be useful.

Brush strokes are everything. Yikes, I’m glad I tried again!

My second try, I really gave the soap a chance to thicken up before trying and I got better brushes.

Final try. I stuck with simple white on a gray soap and focused on getting a more interesting brush stroke. This was a great technique to learn for special occasions.
